Completed Romancing Spring Quilt - Paper Pieced Log Cabin Blocks

2011 Charity Quilt - "Romancing Spring"
I did the overall design and layout, and several other ladies did the floral applique designs. We foundation pieced the log cabin blocks on standard 8.5x11-inch paper. There are at least eleven different block layouts, depending on the blocks' location on the quilt.  It was quite a challenge keeping everything organized so two same-color strips did not touch each other.  The long arm quilting was done by guild member Cindy Dunlap, who coincidently also won the quilt!

Design and Making Our 2011 Charity Quilt

Every two years our guild makes a quilt to raise money for local charities and to further the craft of quilting for our guild. Starting in January we got together after guild meetings to discuss design options for the quilt. Once agreed to by the guild membership, fabric selection began. Several of us met at Patchwork Angels (a local quilt shop) and worked out the colors for the log cabin base blocks. After the April and May meetings we made the log cabin blocks using the paper piecing technique. The fun part was peeling off all the paper foundations. During June, the quilt design commitee worked on the applique flower designs, made kits and gave them out in July for several of the members to applique. They are just starting to get finished and should be ready prior to our first guild meeting of the 2010-2011 guild year in September.

2009-2010 End of Year Picnic

Each guild year end we celebrate with a potluck picnic - and every year we have lots of goodies to share with the members. Our guild meets from September to June, and have the summer off to quilt and enjoy the sunshine! See you all in September!

2009-2010 BOM Project

Quilt member Carol Bunnell (peeking out from the 'Summer' quilt) and her daughter created the Autumn quilt design for quilt members to use for our Block of the Month program. Several members brought their quilts to the last meeting of our 2009-2010 calendar year to show the rest of the guild. Thank you Carol for sharing your talents! The summer design was used for a local shop hop.
